Help getting my soil correct

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me out, I'm having trouble getting my soil correct. I've read threads and have gotten advise but I still can't get it right, maybe someone can explain it better to me.

I started my grow in some soil that had time release nutes, soil which my hydro shop sold me. Anyways once I discovered it was no good I went and got some organic soil and perlite. I did a 75% soil / 25% perlite mix. It seemed good to me and I thought I was on track. The first watering I noticed it took lots and nothing came out the bottom but wasn't too worried it all disappeared quick. Next watering was with nutes so I didn't give it much. It did take 4 days for the soil to dry out, the other stuff was dry in 2 days. So tonight I decided I was going to flush because I felt I had to much nitrogen from my other soil plus I wanted to get some PH readings from the soil. Well that didn't go so well, my soil will not let water through, it just turned to complete muck. I know for sure I cannot continue to grow in this dirt as it is.

My question is what should I be adding so the soil doesn't turn to muck, do I just add more perlite? I absolutely have to get this right this time around and would appreciate some help. Here's some pics.

1st pic: An inch of water sits on the surface

2nd pic: The mix I'm using, this is dry left over stuff.

3rd pic: My baby after the whole ordeal.
