Ok, can I move into your house and grow in your closet? Unless the answer is yes, I will have to grow in the best possible location at my residence. I have a small space heater for the cold winter and the centrifugal fan I have keeps it cool in the summer. I want to maintain my temps even all year. Timer idea sounded good, but was not (rookie mistake on my part). jcj77d thanks for your help but I need someone who knows my problem and can help me. The clichés like "its all about temps & air cirulation" don't seem to help much.

Any experienced growers use a thermostat, good place to buy one, and how do I hook one up.
Thanks.
Hey there, well I'm not an experienced grower by any means but just hooked up a thermostat for myself. I wanted the exhaust fan to turn on/off when the temp got to high/low. Most thermostats will work but you need a few extra parts (transformer + relay) because the thermostat will likely be 12 or 24volt, mine is 24volt digital for heat and cool. I use the cool side because I want the fan to come on when the temp gets to high, but if your temp gets to low you can use the heat side to turn on a heater and shut it off when it gets to hots. Here's a diagram I posted that should help you wire one up, or you could buy what someone posted on here, I personally like the thermostat.

Hope this helps, Good luck!!

the only reason i wana do single cola is becase my machine is realtivley small, so i dun wana over pack it .

how long can i store seeds for, and whats the best way to store them?

how will i know when to change my nutrient solution?
a customer service agent from futuregarden told me to change it every 2 weeks if i had 8 plants in in my AS(areospring). But is there another way of knowing?

For the do it yourselfer thats great but for the masses who just need a basic thermostat to simply turn on and off a fan i think the one recomended yesterday is good.It doesnt neen a transformer or a relay because its just a simple 110volt themostat.I think robsgreen is talking about a thermostat to connect to both a fan and a heater like the ones used in a home.Robsgreen, nice drawing man!Can that set up be used with a basic fan and a space heater cause if it can i think you may have somthing there.

Hi, yeah that setup isn't the easiest but its not as hard as it looks, its a cleaner setup and you can do more with it. You can use it for anything you want, hook up your TV to it if you like, it will come on when the temp gets too low or high, or hook anything else up you desire, could even ignite a bomb Yeah I'm using a household thermostat but keeps temperature very accurate. All that is happening is you get 120volt out of the relay when the thermostat clicks the relay, exactly like that cord but homemade. I'm using a 10amp relay but if you need more power get a bigger relay. In my box the fan comes on every 10minutes or so for about 3 minutes, I think that will work well.

Here's my first grow in progress.

Nice man,I like...So i could build this set up for my new sealed grow so whenever the temps go too high a port AC will kick on and if it gets too cold at night a space heater could kick on? Im thinkin i could actually save by geting an AC/heater combo and have its own therm. do it all but im not sure they work like that, any ideas?

I have a few two stage plug and play thermostats. No transformers and the sensor is 8' long. It plugs into a normal wall socket. Then you plug in your fan to one outlet and your heater into the other. Set the cool to start at 75 and the heat to start at 65.

ETC-211000 Two Stage Remote Bulb Temp Control 120/240V
ETC-211000 Specifications: 2 Stage: Controls both Heating and Cooling at the same time. Temperature Setpoint Range: -30° to 220°F Differential range:

I plug one into the fan running my cooltube. It acts like my heater during veg. If temps drop below 70, it stops cooling my lamp. Amazing gizmo. I own six of them. I use them all over my grow. The sensor is water proof and ok for use in aquariums/beer. It can be plugged into your reservoir to cool your nutrients. I use it in my clone machine as well.

Or you can use a timer.

Yeah, you certainly could, however you would need 2 relays, one for each device if you want them to come on separately. Plus a thermostat that controls both heat and cool at the same time, I messed up when I bought mine, it only controls one or the other, there's a switch on the front for cool or heat. So if I have it on cool it won't send any signal to turn on a heater.

Rumpleforeskin gadget is nice but I couldn't find anything like that around and I hate ordering online, when I want something I want it now. Thats what I was looking for but I'm glad I made this one, it looks more professional and well it was something to do while I was baked. LOL

You own six but how many can you actually use in your grow, isnt your grow a small area just inside your garage or do you have more space? And to use this in your res.you must be using some homemade chiller right? Most chillers i have seen have a dig. controler on them,or am i misssing somthing?

Only one of them is the two stage model. I have them in my home as well. I have all my stereo/TV boxes in a broom closet. I use an infrared repeater eye to turn all the junk on and off (from the couch). Problem is heat builds up in that closet. So I took my grow knowledge and used it to cool that cloest.

I hard wired the thermostat to a wall socket.
I also have a shopping addiction (much worse drug then cannabis). If I see one on Ebay that has no min bid, and is going for $10...... I have to buy that bitch right now!
Ebay is king for this type of thermostat.
  • I use a two stage unit for my main fan to cool and the other stage stops my cool tube fan when it gets cold.
  • I use one in the bubblebuckets to check temps. Used to be plugged into a cooler. Made no difference so it just acts a gage now.
  • One hooks to a small porcelain heater (almost never hooked up)
  • One to turn on the fans in my clone room
  • One in my clone machine, hooked to my aquarium heater. Heater has a temp setting, but I don't trust it.
Ok, so I could have bought the first one and been good. But I like to shop. The other units just make my grow look hi-tech.

You asked.

heres a link to a great company w/ good prices http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct...roductID=51244 & if u need more outlets than one just hook a shurge protector to it, giving u 4-8 outlets., & it should come w/ instructions. P.S. your starting to piss ppl off so watch out, & watch what u say if u want help.

Thanks for the great thread, its helped a lot, here's some pics of my baby!

yes u can transplant them, that soil will kill the plants, (timed released ferts are bad), just take the plants out the cup & put the rootball under water & gently shake/wash off any dirt not being held by roots then replant them tryin not to damage the roots, u may get some stuntted growh for a wk
