no, dont cut leaves off, b/c the leaves are like solar panals, gathering light & co2, & converting it to energy, they also help the plant transpire. the buds get their energy from the leaves. u can tie back, tuck, or trim part of the leaves, if they are blocking light from the buds.

put then in a dry, air tight container like a film canaster, putting a cotton ball on top of them. then either just put them somewhere safe or ive heard of people storeing them in the fridge for longer storage, but i dont.

Im interested in growing and have been searching around this site alot lately but I still have a few questions

I am planning on growing in my 3 1/2' L x 4 1/2' W x 8' H closet. I am looking to grow 4-5 plants

I saw that some sort of exhaust is needed and I was wondering if a bathroom exhaust fan would work, and how many cfm I should be looking for

for lighting I have 2 4' light trays that can hold 2 fluorescent bulbs each

sort of like this:


I was wondering if that would be sufficient lighting for the first few weeks until I could pick up an HPS or better source, or if it would be ok to just stick with cfl's throughout the whole grow, I know I would need more than what I have now

also how many watts and lumens should I be looking for per plant?

yes a bathroom fan will work, & w/ your space youll need a 130-150+cfm fan, as for the lights, the rule of thumb is 50-100watts of light per plant or a minimum of 3500-5000 lumens per plant. u can use cfl's through out the whole grow, or u can use an hid light. youll need 6500k cfl for vegging, & 2700k cfl for flowering. & a metal halide hid for veg, & a hps hid for flowering. www.htgsupply.com has great stuff, id get a 400w hid like this http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct...roductID=47981

JCJ: I asked SUSPECT this but i want your advice too.I will be ordering my 1st seeds and will be growing only one strain for a year,will grow all plants inc. males(will seed them for future grows)Stinky wont be a problem,what strain would you suggest so i dont get board, want DANK buds with alot of trics.Should i look for the IBL or an inbred pure line for stable offspring? I dont want to start with anything but the best.

If i use a port AC/heater combo,can i set one temp. and have it cool in the day and heat in the night when the temp. drops so i dont have to use two dif. machines?Meaning set it and forget it without the need for changing the settings everyday and or every night.

Question: This is my 1st grow and the questions will be at the end of this.Plants will be started in a 2x6x8 closet under a 4' 8 bulb T5 fixture and five CFL with one 10.0 UVB CFL inside my 10x10x8 main sealed flower room.This closet is not part of the big room.After germinating there will be both males and females,The two best looking females will stay in the Veg. closet and become my mothers and will be used to clone and then put under the T5/CFL and UVB bulbs for the next year or so. The other plants will be moved into the big flower room under my 1000 w. hortilux super HPS to become seeded(does it matter what the ratio is on the remaining plants,should be aprox a 50/50 mix of the remainder of the 10 pac of seeds, aprox 3-4 males and 3-4 females).I also have another UVB ,should i get one of those alu. reflectors and clamps for each plant in flower? And should i invest in a MH bulb for the HID veg. part of their lives?Will it really mater if i try a pure sativa in the 10x10x8 room since i can go into flower whenever i want and since i will only be growing six plants?Seems alot of people are growing sativas. When in the veg. should i start with co2? If i used a 600w Mh light during veg and a 600w hps during flowering, would i get less yeild as compared to doing the whole process hps, scince mh gives off less lumens?

also if i use a higher wattage than the recommended amount for an area, will there be light going to waste?

Some of the seed company's say you will get lets say 500g per m2 based off of sog setups and 600 w lighting, do you think i will have to limit my plans to just sog only setup in order to get the amount disired?

there are so many factors to consider: eg: difficulty of grow, yeild, thc %, flower time, flavor. ive always been a fan of northern lights, big bud, white widow, blue widow, haze strains, ice, sour deisel, just to name a few. your best bet is a cross of both sativa/indica, & if u want the best of the best, DJ Short, & Chimera are the best breeders in the biz, but are high $. try this link, its got the rarest & exotic strains http://www.williamswonder.com/exoticseeds.html

banannas & most fruits give off a gas called ethylene as they rippen, this gas is a plant hormone & when exposed to mj plants it helps increase your chances of getting a female, but this needs to be done around wk 2-4. do a google search on ethylene & marijuana.

if u find the right one that has those functions i dont see why not. u should be able to find a programable unit.

i think the t5 & 5 cfls will be enough to start, its always eaiser to add more than to waste $ on something u might not need (mh), & the uvb bulbs really arnt about light output its the uvb rays, which a 10.0 uvb bulb rays are good up to 24" away, so id just hang them from the celing down just to the tops of your plants (turn off those uvb bulbs when u enter the room if u want to keep your eye site). i dont like pure sativas b/c they can grow up to 15' tall, & they take longer to flower than indicas, ide stick w/ a sativa/indica hybrid. as for co2, most only use it during flowering, b/c of its cost & this is where its most needed. i would gradually build up to 1500 ppm wk by wk, b/c in nature the ppm of co2 is only around 300 ppm. & 10000 ppm of co2 to kill pest, never heard of. the best all natural pest control is neem oil. im not sure about the difference on the btu ratings of gases. the advise i can give is buy stuff as u go along & not all at once, i say this b/c i have a closet full of stuff not being used, as your grow comes along youll now what u need to add if anything, remember your a beginner & growing isnt easy as you might think, mj plants need care & love to become the plant they are supoposed to be. & thanks, but its my passion to help others & it keeps me busy, if i missed something let me know. these are the strains ive grown in past http://www.geocities.com/jdivx2002/strain.html its outdated but there are only about 10 missing.
