my sprouts are about 2 - 3" long right now, they each have the cotyledons and the first set of leaves. but they are all leaning in different ways and I have to keep adjusting them to make them stay straight. Why are they doing this? overwatering? too close to lights?

right now I have them in peat moss pots and 1 - 2" away from the lights. the lights are 2 4' flourescents. 6500K, 3050 lumens each.

edit: I also have a fan blowing on them, trying to strengthen the stems. but it is not an oscillating one, could that be it?

keep your plants near the center of the bulbs (this is where its the brightest), & keep the light 1-2" away like u are. if u where overwatering them, they will have a harder time standing up. everything sounds ok, except for the fan, it might be to much. a oscillating would be better, if not keep yours on low & if u need to, move it away more. u can also take straws & split them down the center & put them around the stems to help hold them up.

I can testify that the old straw trick works really well.......it saved 2 or 3 of my seedlings this run. After a few days with the straw & a SMALL fan on them, the stems thickened right up & are doing great now.

What are you using for a reflector with the tubes?

your best bet is to start them inside then move them out at around wk 2. go the the beginners thread & start w/ germination 101

So in about 4-5 weeks when ALL my plants are done (could be a couple more if i do the multiple harvest route)i will fill my 6 plant custom BBs with 2 each of the same strains i now have.

My question is since i will be vegging for a few more weeks, what MH 1K bulb would be the BEST in my big AC reflector/Lumatek ballast?

I REALLY love my eye Hortilux super HPS 1K for flowering and the MH bulb which seems comparable is the MH blue something or other from eye also, but its like $200.00 or some outrageous ##.

If i KNEW that bulb would kick the ass of everything else out there i would not even hesitate, but i know nothing. HELP PLEASE!!!

Here is my HPS bulb too.

Look into one or a DIY one cause it WILL pay big dividends later too.

i think sunmaster makes a very good mh bulb, that puts out 110,000 lumens, id go w/ the nuteral bulb. Sylvania makes a high output mh bulb, that puts out 115,000 & 125,000 lumens, depending on position. Agrosun makes a 118,500 lumens mh bulb.

well I am just using these fluros temporarily for the sprouts. I plan on switching to a 400W MH for vegetative and HPS for flowering, and I will have mylar surrounding my grow room then.
