Been calibrating my hana with 4 and 7 solutions which have been in a syringe in the dark for 4 months and this morning i used new solution to see how accurate they were.

The 4 was 3.6 and after i re-cal. the 7 was 6.9 and now i know to only store for 1 month and then ill check them again to see if its ok.

I would like to reuse them for a lil while if i can,we will see.

For an example, just now i have 5 gal. R/O to PH which is at 4.0 and just 8 drops of ANs Barricade put it at 6.8.I use this in place of a PH up(seems MUCH stronger and better for plants).

I was thinking about getting another but how about longer term storage of the meters, if I keep the electrode in storage solution is there a problem storing them for months? I dont want to end up with one expensive & one really expensive meter that dont work right.

My tapwater after sitting for 24 hours is about 7.8 or so & as I remember, after adding 1/4 strength FF nutes last time, I think they brought it down to about 7.2-7.3.

Can I use the liquid drop type test at all or am I pretty much stuck w/getting another meter in the meantime?

If you have two you can use two alternating or occasionally together to keep them in check, that way you KNOW your always right on the $.
Its over kill but I'm just that way.

If I decide to get another meter, do you guys recommend the Blue Lab PH Truncheon or what?

Yes i do, but wait till the NEW european one gets here, its got all new and bullet proof/water proof casing.

I had NOTHING but leaks and poor readings,it has the same probe as the $300 BCM500 i have in transit now.

A GOOD PH meter is all in the probe,if its made in china its crap and will not do what a US/Europe probe will do or last as long. You can get a good one once or several and have problems, your choice.

I figured spending $85 on an Oakton was a good investment. Are these on the cheap side? I know it's not a Blue Lab, but it's not a $39 Hanna either.

Hanna, like many companies has meters with china probes and meters with the "GOOD" probes also so do your homework first before you spend your hard earned $$.

If you get an expensive meter (not the pen type)make sure you get a BNC type connection, then you can use any good brand you want when it goes, they dont last forever but a good meter has a good warr. and its better to buy a new BNC probe than a whole new meter.

Im explaining all this cause it seems YOU want a GOOD meter since you were willing to pony up for a $150 BL PH Truncheon.

BTW,the BCM500 has a 5 year guarantee, try to find that! And they will not ever fix this one, they replace it and start the warr. all over again.

Will the EC/PPM portion of a combo meter be much help to me if I stick with soil or am I better off waiting for the new Bluelab truncheon?

Any idea how long before the Euro version arrives in the States? Does it look different, have a different model # or how will I know it when it comes?

Look up www.getbluelab.com ,they can tell you as they are the distributer for the US.

Not sure what it looks like but you can look up the french VS the old U/S one, ones blue w/white letters and the other is white with blue letters IIRC.
