Also for clarification the T=tube type bulb and the # is over 8 as 1" ie:T5=5/8",T8=8/8 or1" and T12=12/8 or 1.5" for those who care to know.

ive only been able to find the VHO lamps in a t12. 1 t-12vho (48") bulb puts out 5600-6000 lumens. thats just 1 bulb. ive looked & looked for the SHO bulbs & only found them 1 time a few yrs ago, & they put off about 7200-8000 lumens per bulb.

I feel the problem with any of the bulbs other than the T5s is that the reflectors just are not as well designed as some of the high quality T5 units,so a 5000 lumen T5 with a great reflector should be better than anything even if it puts out more light unless it has a superior reflector that is.

Just picked up a set of New Wave 2' 4 bulb t5's. I'm going for 3' - 3 1/2' plants max, so I think these will be great for cloning & at least early if not full veg for 2-4 plants.

We'll see.....I can't wait to get 'em fired up!!!

I'm kinda bummed out because my new $85 Oakton PH meter wouldn't calibrate correctly, started out only getting to 7.1 instead of 7.0 w/the test solution, then over a week it went to 7.3.

My hydro store gave me a new probe (didn't even want the old one back) to try, but same results. Now they're sending it in to get looked at, but I have no meter for about 10-14 days....kind of a bummer. But, he did give me an $25 addl. discount on my T5 setup for the hassle...they've been great to deal with which is why I like to buy local whenever possible...real people, real customer service!

I do have a liquid drop type PH test kit, but as I'm about to start adding nutes I don't know how that will work out considering it sucked ass to read it w/plain water let alone w/nutes & runoff.

Recommendations? Sympathy? Mommy?

Ide say your moma if your hungry but if your real serious about long term growing, bite the bullet and get a GOOD meter then you will have two. I now have three and a meter will never be my problem however you need one NOW,get a loaner or another is my advice.

youll have to play it safe, most tap water is 7.0. distilled ph is 7.0. when u add nutes to water the ph goes down, not much but it does, so i think youll be fine if u start w/ 7.0 water & add nutes will prob make it drop to 6.7-6.9.

I would say this will work @1/4 nutes depending, but full strength i have found especially with R/O will have much more of an effect on PH with alot less of anything, proly cause the R/O doesn't have the buffers.
