I dont think burying the stems is a good thing, but a nice fan will strengthen them.

Ok so i'm about to start growing and was wondering if i put my CFL's in the utility closet with the furnace and what not then what are my chances of a fire... Will the CFL's cause any problems, I plan on starting off 24/7. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

u need to get a fan blowing on them to strengthen the stem, u will prob need a support for them so they dont fall over, like a straw split down the middle. the hps gives off more lumens & heat. try to lower the mh more, & burring them deeper will cause stem rot.

I really like the straw idea.....I'm gonna do it! Small clip-on fan was started yesterday, indirectly.

At what rate do you think I should move the light closer....6"/day or so? And what's the 1st sign of heat stress I should be looking for in case I go too quickly for them? I dropped it from 3 1/2 feet to a little under 3 feet and am keeping an eye on them, but I have to work during the day so that time makes me a little nervous. I guess I'd be better off going too slow than too fast, right?

Thanks a million dude!!!

hi,

im trying to figure out the best way to light proof my closet set up. im growing in about a 2x3 area with a shelf above that takes up about half the closet space. that means i have 2 sides of my grow without any walls. ive tried cardboard but its very clumsy. i was thinking of duct taping black garbage bags. is there maybe something like velcro canvas...........im trying to stay inexpensive also.

thankyou for any help

I have a question about outdoor growing and cloning.
Can you clone an outdoor plant without getting anything in your home. Like cutting a branch and putting it in the dirt or something like that? Or you must get the branches to your home?

they will respond the that light pretty fast if its going to cause damage. heat stress will cause the leaves to point up, & the cerated edges of the leaves will begin to curl up as well, then after to long they will begin to droup and die. yea id try 6" a day, & if that works, go to 8", gradually increasing until the right heigth.

u can try black & white plastic poly sheets, or go to lowes or home depot & buy that styrofoam insulating that u see beeing put on the outside of new houses. like in the pic. its pretty cheap, & u can cut to the rght size to make portable walls, & just paint them flat white.

clones need to be in a humidity dome, until they root, u could clone outside & dip them in cloning solution, & put them in good dirt & cover them w/ something clear to hold in moisture, but your success rate will prob be low. if u can replicate an indoor clone box setup outside then yes it could work.

When you say the leaves will point up, are you talking about just the cerrated edges? In my "test" grow before this, I remember the leaves kind of reaching for the light....maybe at a 30 degree angle or so, the whole leaf though not just the edges or tips. Is this OK or is that a sign of heat stress?

One more question (I bet you've heard that before), I have an air pump & stones that a got for a DIY cloner & i'm wondering if I should be using it to bubble my water before giving it to the plants? I am just using PH corrected tapwater that has sat out for 24-48 hours, but I thought I read somewhere that people were bubbling their water & that it helps with oxygen.
