with the 449 cfm vortex, how quiet is it at half speed?
What speed you think i should run the fan at, i am going for a straight run of exhaust, a straight pipe, not one of those adjustable loopy ones

You think the 8" odorsok would last longer then the 6" because i am not running it at max cfm, and there is more area on the filter? basically i want to extend the filter life by only running less then half the cfm of the filter. would it work this way? i cant think outside the box today lol

the 6" odorsok is 380cfm
the 8" is 850cfm and 17 bucks more
what one would you choose with this fan and what speed would u run it? the reason i am choosing this is because summers get really hot and it would be nice to run the fan at full speed if needed. this is it then i am ordering everything, i cant wait.

Ide go with the bigger one but IIRC the odor soks really dont do nearly as well as a carbon filter I cant remember what size your grow space is but i would -30% from the cfm speed you want to use (using the rest as reserve for summer)and make sure your moving at least 3x the volume of the space every 5 min.So 1/2 speed is 225-30%=~158cfm will work well for a 475 cubic foot room,a smaller space will work even better.

Got a few questions

Hey,

I got two plants in a pc case grow box. One is maybe 3 days old, so its not of concern. The other is around 2 months old possibly. I stopped keeping track. At first, there was an issue with poor aeration in my soil and shitty pots. So I added perlite to my Fox Farms Ocean Forest, and put it in a 20 oz. soda bottle with 5 or 6 holes in the bottom.

Now, when I transplanted and added perlite, I used a new batch of Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil. At the time it was a good month old plant. I've been told that Fox Farms feeds plants for up to 1 month before the goods are used up in the soil.

Well, since the plant was about a month old, and put it in newer FFOC, would that mean that I should let it be in that soil for another month w/o nutes? I'm wanting to start feeding it, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to wait for the soil's nutrients to be used up.

Also, the way this plant's fan leaves are growing, is really fucking with me! It is now on its 4th set of real fan leaves. I've always thought that "true" fan leaves means that its a set of leaves of 5 or 7, is that correct? Well, here's how the plant grew: First the cotydylons (sp?), then it got a set of ONE broad leaf on each side. (Both of these sets of leaves have since yellowed, and fallen off.) Then, it grew another set of leaves but with only 3. It then grew its first set of 5 fan leaves. Then, it grew another. Now, it has grown 2 more sets of fan leaves, but these have 6 fan leaves... Not 7, but 6.

Is the way this plant grows seem odd to anyone? This is the farthest I"ve ever gotten a plant, btw.

What could be wrong with my plant. Its like 3 ft from the hps lamp. Havent used nutes yet. Temp is around 84F normally. other plants seem to be doing well, this one is the only one with these spots. just transplanted like 3 days ago, last night it had less and now it has way more spots.

New soil can be used w/o nutes for 2-3 weeks when a seedling was started in it,1 month old plants will need nutes.

Is there only one 6 leaf pair? sounds weird/mutant but JCJ will know for sure and will return shortly.

Looks like heat stress to me,are all the plants the same strain? What are you PHing your water and whats the run off PH?Is it possible you used some time released soil for the transplant???

i dont have a ph meter i was trying to avoid to buying until after this first grow. if it helps i have fox farm soil and i feed plants only pre boiled water and no nutes. whats the standard ph for boiled tap water? can the soil change ph by itself if nothing is added but water? this just started happening to my other plants as well right after we put mylar in the grow room. maybe thats the cause?

84F. is way too high,is that temp at and on 24hrs a day? What wattage is the light and at that hight can you hold your hand at that distance from the light w/o it hurting?Mylar will add to the side intensity.A good PH meter is required!!(or some way to test ph).Go to sears and get a distiller for true distilled h2o,the energy your spending will add up to its cost at some point.
Im not to sure just boiling water will make waters ph an any one consistant level, its still prolly still close to the same as your tap h20.Soil ph with pure water will move to the waters ph but your ph could be off in the same wrong direction as the tap water causing a lock out situation. That is most likely NOT whats goin on,i say HEAT, and too much!!

its on for 18/6. it does not hurt my hand at that height but it does warm it up pretty nice but there is no pain. the light is a 1000watt hps. im going to invest in a ph meter i guess. and a distiller.

P1230092.jpg

And does this one appear to be a female on top as well? I definitly found "balls" on it, so I know what those look like.....so it might be a Hermie then!!??

Thanks for your help guys, it's my 1st attempt ever...bagseed, low budget....before the real thing!

if you ask me, Id say those leaves have "wild ph spotting", this happens when your ph is not constant. I know first hand cause I just went through this same mishap, not a big deal if you fix it quick.
INVEST IN A PH METER, dont be a cheap ass, itll pay itself off post-harvest in weight.
peace!

pics look good, I suggest using a much larger container to grow in, plants will get rootbound in about 10 weeks in a 1 gal pot, & it only takes 8 to flower most strains, so take it from there.
Peace!
