Started first grow, have questions

Hey,

I just planted my seedlings into soil. They are about 3" tall with a second set of the mature leaves starting. They had been going about a week before I transplanted them and had roots extending below the plug. I noticed that my leaves were getting slightly yellowed and curling, some with spots. The edges that have the spikey points. Those points are curling up and the whole leaf seems to be curling down. As well, some of the leaves are sort of deformed.

My first theory was that the light was too low. Or maybe that the natural ferts in the Fox Farm are causing an adjustment time for the fragile seedlings.

So, I raised the light from about 25" from the plants to about 30" I also have not watered again. I am waiting until the soil dries out.

So..
What caused the yellowing and curling? Was it too early to transplant the plugs? Should I have waited to plant them? Or was it the light? Is there an easier way to check this accurately besides trail and error? And what are the guidelines for the distance? I read to start at 20" and it will probably get closer to that after the plants harden themselves to the new conditions. But I would like best possible conditions.

Below are all of the details regarding this grow. Please ask any other questions and I will give the best answers that I can. I plan on doing a soil PH/Potassium/iron/etc test tomorrow but it seems ridiculous to think that when sterilizing, watering with distilled water and new/fresh/and proven soild is used.

Thank you for your help. I'll be around looking for a response.

~3'X4'X20" cloning center with one T5 Floro (located on top of cabinet)
~A 3'X4'X6' insulated grow case with a 600W HPS (Son Agro bulb) and wrapped with the white plastic that is sold at hydro stores. It is also totally light proof.
~An in-line canister fan exhausts hot air from one side and sucks out of the cabinet on other.
~I have a small wall vent that I installed on the bottom of the cabinet that I blow a cyclone fan into for cool air. I also will open the front doors for air circulation over the plants to give them a little stress to strengthen the stems.

Temps are stable in the case (range from 70-80F)
Humidity is around 40 percent

Planted seeds in a "Rapid Rooter" tray. Seedlings did really well. When I noticed them growing a second set of the adult leaves and that the cotyledons were curling down I checked the root system under the tray and they all had roots extending below the plug.

I placed the plugs in Fox Farm's Ocean Forest soil covering about 1-2" of river rocks for airation and watered with distilled water. I didn't soak them too much so as to be careful. I watered the whole pots (about 2 1/2X1X1 foot diameter) at planting and sprayed the leaves with water too. No fertilizer yet. Also, the pots and river rocks were sterilized with a 1 to 9 part bleach solution and rinsed in hot water.

What is good to use as hooks for LST?
I never done LST properly.
I realize I'm supposed to tie the plant down and hook it to the ground with some wire, but what works well as a hook at the end of the wire?

You could use hobby/craft wire. It bends itself around and wouldn't need hooks. Just bend one side, then the other.

If it gets much bigger and these will not work, you could use string or twine, but you will probably not be doing much LST at that late a stage

Does that sound right? So that ends up being .0935 of a tbsp, or almost a tenth of a tablespoon?
yes, or u could mix a gallon of it (3tbsp) divided by 1/8 = .375 tbsp per gal, or if u want to stick w/ a quart u need 1.4ml of nute

I have had to water the ones in organic soil a little more as that soil goes bone dry very quickly. I just watered those again today and added a little MG liquid fert to the water (half cap for 2 qts).

Any ideas? Should I try transplanting to another soil when or if they get bigger? I thought organic soil was supposed to be good
what brand of soil, & are u checking the ph (6.8 is money shot), how many leaf set do u have & des the yellowing start at the bottom. they shouldnt need ferts yet, & if u do u need to start & 1/4 strength. & organic is better. whats your setup: lights, fans, strain, soil, nutes, watering, etc. need info on setup & care, or pics

the ppm for hydro needs to be gradually taken up as they get bigger, maxing out @ 1500-2500 ppm depending on the strains ability to handle nutes, but 1800 ppm is good for a max, & start w/ maybe 200-400 ppm, not 100% (bout 95%) sure on this, so try to do a little reading up. or ill be back w/ right info. & below is a ph chart

the t5 need to be 2-4" away, as for the hps, put your hand above the plants if the light is to hotfor your hand, then raise it until its not or visversa. u need to check the ph (6.8 is $ shot), & u shoud be watering w/ 6.8 ph water as well. get the humidity up to 60%+. most of this sounds like ph issues & high temps (maybe too clodse to light). look at this link. http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688

(1) What type of watt light bulb should i use when i first plant the sprouts? i have a 40w and 60w laying around the house but am willing to go buy a different one if needed.

(2) Can two 100w lightbulbs support 2 plants? also can they support one plant very well?

(3) What works best with new sprouts 24hr light or some other combos like 18/6 exc.

(4) Could someone direct me to a guide with pictures/post pictures of how to "Top Off" the plants it NEEDS to have pictures because i have tried reading stuff about it and I have no idea exactly what part of the plant you are supposed to cut.

thnx much.
