hey man....goto a radio shack and pick up a hand held microscope...like60-100x zoom....then look at the trichomes on ur buds...if they clear its not ready....if its cloudy u can cut it,u will get an uppy high....u can let it go longer than that and see amber trichs...if u let it go that long u will get more of a couchlock high.....checkout my grow journal, the last few pages are full of trich pics so u kno wat im talkin bout....if the hairs are just turnin red that means u still prolly got a months more...maybe less maybe longer....but u say they are 8 feet so they prolly sativa strain which could go up to 14 weeks...that would suck....

PICS PLEASE!!! I WANA C THESE MONSTERS!!!!

30x is fine. Remember to look at the trichomes in at least 3 different spots and look for the "avarage" cloudy to amber ratio.

Is it possible to check trichs at night outdoors under a flashlight or headlamp with one of these microscopes or would it give off bad reflections? I'm sure nobody has tried that but I will have at least one site I need to monitor at night to keep them secret and safe. Going out every few days during the light hours could be a little dangerous in the end.

Are trichomes usually consistent from top of plant to bottom so that if the top cola is ready the bottom branches are also?

And, not to complicate things too much but something occurred to me. I am the type of smoker that can stretch an ounce to go a long way. If my harvest ends up decent and all four strains produce I could end up with ounces of each. All my MJ is stored vacuum sealed in cool dark containers so it has a long shelf life. My understanding is that over time some of the THC turns into CBD or the CBDs become more developed slowly after harvest so that over time the MJ actually mellows or changes a little. With that in mind I was wondering if maybe I should target harvesting some of my MJ at around 70% so that down the road it might end up being more similar to the stuff I harvested and already smoked. I don't know, it was just a thought.

It would especially be cool to harvest some indica a little early and check the smoke out to see how much it's a head high vs a body high before the CBDs are fully developed. But I'm not sure what a sativa would be like early.
