Checking on the ladies while they sleep

I searched the forums and found nothing on this. I was wondering what light could I use to check my plants during their 12/12 cycle during their sleep period?

I was thinking of something in the green spectrum or maybe a simple flashlight with a green lens, not sure. I work a rotating shifts and find it hard not to want to check on them while they sleep.

I made a self contained grow closet like most but now i wish i had put the reservoir outside of the closet so I could check the nutes, ph and water level etc

Any help would be mucho appreciated

Yes, a green light won't screw them up, there blind to it, Just make sure there is no other light source outside the room shining in when you enter.

If the few minutes of light were at the beginning or end of the light cycle then it probably wouldn't make any difference. The key is that the dark cycle should be uninterupted. Random lights during your off period can mess with the flowering cycle and cause hermies.

^This.

I regularly open my flower cab 10 minutes before the lights come on, and leave it open after the lights go off to take pictures. No problem.

Call me old-fashioned, but I think the best solution is to leave the girls alone while they sleep. Check on them when you can, catching the beginning or end of the light cycle is fine, if you miss a day no big deal.

Agreed, especially when you consider that plants DO recognise a certain part of the green spectrum. I always leave well alone during the night.

There are strains that will flower happilly with just 9 hours dark which is why the 16/8 is not recommended... it is too close to flower for a few strains.

Green CFL works great too. I was skeptical but I've been helping my friend who just got his card grow his white widow plants. They're at 3 weeks and look fucking AMAZING. The leaves are already covered with THC. 1x 1000w HPS and 2x 600w HPS over 6 plants, with a 7th sitting on the side just being rotated a couple times a day.

He has this green CFL which I was really skeptical about due to how bright it is, but it has not affected his flowering at all, and it's on 24/7. They're all 3 weeks in to flowering and already provide a pretty powerful smoke.

I also use green light (incandescent) in my room, and have since I began. Never had a problem.

In our experience, green light has NO bad side effects.

This is correct, when used in conjunction with both the red and blue parts of the spectrum plants will grow faster and stronger, esp during the initial stages of growth (before the seed casing is gone). Green Light helps negate the effects of the harmful irradiation of the red and blue spectrum.

This is where I came to the conclusion that plants don't actually need a dark period, but merely a period of low light levels.

Still though, I'd rather not use GL in my area after lights out. Can you tell me the wattage of your friends bulb?

It's a small one, I'd say a 26w based on the fact it's the same size as the CFLs I use all through my home. (100w equivalent).

ROFL, what an old post someone (harvester) dug up.... that was a year ago, my my my how things have changed.... anyway I leave them alone as much as possible but on emergencies that rarely occur I use a green 20 watt incandescent light to enter my room during lights out. Never had a problem doing so.
