How do I start growing?

I've been smoking for about 4 years now & I've wanted to grow but never knew how. One of my good friends grows their own, but it seems so complicated & I really don't have a lot of grow space. I'm not able to have an area with lights all around it because of other people living in my house. I'd like to know if there's some way possible that anyone could reply with a step by step guide to growing... n if there's anyway that I could get around all the light fixtures & things. Thanks!
