growing process questions and concerns.

Hello. A friend is considering the thought of growing his own bud.

Few questions/concerns to start us off:

1. A friend of mine is convinced (or at least seemed convinced) that he can simply use natural light (ex. from a window) and grow a plant indoor with relatively good result. Is this possible?

2. The same friend mentioned that by using the hydroponics method (I guess thats what one would call it) one could attract unwanted attention. (because of the power consumption) He claims that power company checks for possible growing (or whatever) by checking the electric meter on the side of most houses. Will they do so and if so, how does one prevent this?

He has many other questions and concerns but the above are the most important at the moment.

1. depends on the time of the year and how much light u recieve in the location. as long as u get at least 16 hours of light it is sufficient for growing.

2.hydro is about just as expensive to run as a soil setup, most of the cost is due to the lighting, but if ur using natural lighting u dont have to worry about that, but u still need to worry about the fans and ferts, thats gonna be most of the cost right there.

1. highly unprobable

2. like Spittn4cash said, there isn't going to be a big difference in soil vs. hydro as far as electricity. the electric company isn't going to complain about more money regardless. as an example, a 400watt hps is one of if not the most common grow light for indoor growers. that's probably about the wattage of the power supply on your computer so it's not going to draw attention. assuming this isn't going to be a big commercial op, talking about your grow will be what gets you caught.

I do not plan to do anything.

My friend is wondering what the rough estimate of one of the setups would be.

Why are there people here asking questions for their "friends"? If it's really a friend, that person should be on asking the questions. If it's really you, fess up and you probably will get more responses, and you won't get busted from posting anything here (OK, don't post your street address, but no one will track you down).

No way to estimate the cost of a set-up. From $50 to $5,000 or more, depending on an infinite number of variables.

Mmmk. first there will be a gaint pot plant in the window..second it's going to smell very very strongly during flowering... Running like this getting noticed for the little bit of power the hydro system takes should be the least of his worries. Might as well just put up a huge "LOLZ NO POT HERE *arrow to plant*" sign up :/

*edit*
Natural light will work though. Just kind of noticeable :/

Fess up and admit that you really want to know this information for yourself. No one here cares, alot of people probably do riskier shit than you and your not going to get busted just from asking a question on a website for yourself.

I've already responded that it is not me originally asking these questions, when I have a question I'll ask it. Now, if we can continue.
