Humidity Question

How important is it to keep the humidity up high? I'm having trouble raising it above the ambient room humidity, which is probably no higher than about 50% at a guess. What do you do? I thought of putting a bowl of water in front of a fan heater, but then I am going to be too warm in there.

Suggestions always welcomed!

For Veg you want the humidity between 40% - 60%. For later in flower down in 30% range.
You don't have to use a heat fan, you could just use a regular fan to blow over the bowl or pot of water.
I just got one of those swamp coolers for $50 and not only does it blow out 12 degree cooler air onto my plants, it boosted my humidty from 30% to 50% in my veg box. It's really small too.
