bag seed grow experiment

ok so heres the deal. i had some seeds lying around from the bottom of a recent bag and i figured, why not grow some nugs. however from the start i wasn't ever really expecting it get to the point of budding and just wanted to see some plants grow. i read some guides here on gc and saw in a bunch of places that i shouldn't use halogen lights to grow or miracle grow fertilizer. i went out on a journey the supplies i would need and try to avoid the halogens and mg. when i got to home depot the cheapest potting soil was the miracle grow by a lot so i figured, it cant be that bad and picked up a few bags. then i went looking for lights and found a very cheap 250w halogen worklight so i once again just said fuck it and got it.

now not expecting much from this grow i am actually pretty impressed after 4 weeks with the progress of the two plants. i might be willing now to look into other forms of lighting, but this seems to be working just fine for now. i'm thinking that when i switch to 12/12 that might change fast however. when do you all think i can start flowering?

keep in mind, i bought stuff that wasn't recommended because of the cheapness, not because i am stupid. and i was really really high.

recommendations would be awesome.

wierd, i used a slow release soil, that had nutes, and it pretty much stalled growth the third week and killed it, how many weeks is that?

yeah the stuff i used was time release too. its been 4 weeks

i transplanted them into scotts potting soil i dont know the specs on it but that was a few weeks ago.

should i keep growing with the 250w halogen work light? it seems to be working nicely thus far. anyone?

they look like they are stretching. you are going to need more lights. when they are young, fluoros/cfls are good.

lose the halogen. You get more out of a few 26watt CFL than a 250watt halogen. Check out my grow in my sig.

ditch the halogen it does nothing to grow plants as it;s in the wrong color spectrum. you can get a 70w hps and a load of 26w cfl for under 100$. all halo does is make heat and waste energy. cfl is way more efficent as a 26w cfl will grow better than 2 1000w halos. plus mg soil is too harsh for pot seedlings a older plant may do ok but seedlings will burn.
don't cheap out on soil and lights. you'll get youre $ back in one grow even if you don;t sell jus by not having to buy weeed again. and with the right setup you can do what i do with clones and harvest 2lbs every 60days or so and i only put about 400$ into it
