Reading through the thread now. Fantastic and a few pages in.

I have trained Bonsai Trees before and it was fairly easy to do. However with those I would use a very thin (gradually increasing the thickness as the plant grows) copper wire and basically you wrap it around about 4 or 5 times along the branch evenly . From there I was able to easily bend wooden (several years old) branches to 90 degrees using this method if I wanted to. I never needed to tie.

I was wondering can the same principle apply here? As the plant gets larger throughout the flowering process (I am changing to flowering tonight...first grow!!) and thus the branches get thicker, is this technique ok? I have limited space to tie down but not impossible if need be, so this is appealing to me but I can traditionally tie down if necessary. It does not need to be copper wire, it could be any kind of plyable metal, if that causes concern.

An afterthought, probably a stupid question but I am debating how long to veg for. So far it has been two weeks. Once I go to flowering will the plant continue to grow and produce more cola's as I tie the plant down? Or do I only have the cola sites already present from the veg phase only. I have a limited vertical growth potential so I need to be careful how long to veg for, but no point cutting it short if I can't get addition cola sites.

That's a tough one. Most plants at least double in size, but it can range from barely any change in size to approximately 3 times the size when flowering started. It's all in the breed unfortunately.

No problems. Trial and error. I have enough seeds to do two more grows so I will see how much growth I get this time and veg longer next if I need too.

I will be doing the copper wire though, I will take some pictures as I do them to show how easy it is compared to tying down. (as long as it proves easy....lol)

Ok I need help I'm trying to plan out my first grow and box design. If I plan on a 2plant grow using lst and cfl's for lighting what are my minimum space requirements? I will need to add a few inches so there is space for fans and a carbon filter inside the box (instead of outside, more stealth) and also extra space for error (1st grow remember, I don't want it too tight in there) I will build a second box to the same specs for a clone/veg chamber.
Can anyone help me out

Blooming, your ufo grow is great, I'm glad you choose to post on here. Not only is this the first LED grow I've followed but it looks impressive so far, and I will be looking into LEDs even if I still use cfl for my grow.

instead of cutting up all the coathangers in your house for LST tie-downs, that's the stuff I use. totally bendable and plenty stiff for accurate and secure LSTing. 14ga is same size as coathanger and you can't beat 200' for $10.

You might not wanna use a box because your gonna have a hard time getting airflow into the box and it's gonna hold heat.

It would have intake and exhaust fans, if not then your right it would get far too hot for the plants to survive.
I'm planning on following what most other people have done for the grow boxes here on the site. I'm just having problems planning the dimensions if the plant is lst'd, most growers on here have done standard straight up grows.
