I'm thinking that this topping/training information should be in the general indoor or advanced techniques forums....this stuff is unnecessary for absolute beginners. If you have never grown before, I would suggest letting the plants grow naturally until you get some experience.

topping is so easy, i think it was great information for my first grow, fimming on the other hand in a little trickier and could be an advanced technique. but its all information no reason it cant be here. this is LST thread anyway not so much about topping femming.

as for the leaves being in the dirt, what exactly from the soil will the leaves pick up that the stem wont? not doubting it can get stuff but im just wondering exactly what and if it can then i would like to trim my leaves for atm i have a few lying on the dirt.

Well, it must not be that big of a threat because this seems to be a widely used technique.

You should always use clones, or have realized that the pre-flowers, are indeed, female. Otherwise, all of this would be pointless. Especially training it around the pot like that.. I use clones, it's just easier.

That sounds amazing. I most likely will attemp this method of LST for my first closet grow. one question, i dont understand what the difference between the side branches and the colas is? How will i be ablbe to tell the difference? Do the colas start to appear when i begin flowering at 12/12, because I'm thinking of doing 12/12 from the beginning.

The cola is basicly the bud that grows on the main stem''the fatest one normaly..By using lst you give yourself lots of main stems by giving each part of the plant the same amount of light so hopefully you will have many stems with plenty of fat colas on((i hope)....+ u still get your little popcorn ones down below too....
Ide let em veg a bit tho m8...

Corse im stoned!

Thanks for the guide DierWolf.

LST seems to be definitely the way to go.

Theres endless benefits to making your plant grow like this:

1 - You can grow in a smaller space. Like a shorter cupboard.

2 - You get more yield. (although this is something that people continually debate over, sigh)

3 - You're getting more effect from your lights this way.

4 - You can see ALL the leaves ALL the time, you just look down on your plant, its far better, no need to even move or touch it at all, you can see any yellowing leaves etc just by looking down on it.

5 - Every single leaf of the plant gets the maximum amount of light - this is the main thing out of all these points!

6 - My own personal theory - because the stems are horizontal, does this increase the flow of fluids around the plant? It must! It simply must! Maybe this explains why you get a better yield from a plant grown in such a manner? Apart from of course the increased lighting.

Lots of people grow their plants the conventional "natural way" but I can't see why you wouldn't do LST. Its not just the higher yield its also the fact that where you might have had one plant in a full sized wardrobe, now with this way you could partition off that wardrobe and fit 2 plants in, one in the top half one in the bottom. Way more bud man WAY MORE and thats what everyone is aiming at - maximum yields.

Was wondering - can you just clip the stem down with those plastic coated paper clips? I say plastic because you don't want them going rusty on you. String is not really the best thing because theres no way using string to pin down the stems the way you show in the diagrams - however paperclips, as long as the strength of the stem does not pull the paper clip out, would be perfect.

Makes me wonder why plants don't grow like this in nature, lol, I mean you can grow a cannabis plant IN CAPTIVITY and do LST on it and so it grows better, more bud at the end of it. I guess really plants are just dumb and always grow towards the light.

Thanks again for this guide, I would not even know where to start if i hadn't found this!
