BUT....

The longer you will have to veg.

Its a trade off. If you need to get through your grow and harvest quicker, LST is for you. If you have all the time in the world then fim / top away. But you won't end up with anything better / bigger than the person who spent less time vegging and just tied down the plant.

Fim / Top should only be used on strains that are known to work well with it.

A lot of strains like to grow into one big cola. With the MAJORITY of these strains, if you top or fim it, the plant is still producing the same amount of bud, its just split into 2 or 4 cola's instead of one.

For those who refuse to actually read or look at the pictures in OP....

Topping:

Cut off the new growth and two new branches will grow in its place.

(This was a rare example where 3 new growths occured instead of two)

Fimming:

Cut the top 80% off of the new growth, and if done right, up to 4 new branches will grow in place of the growth you cut. You will also have the two growths from the node below the cut that will grow in.

I was wondering if anyone can answer this question for me: Say I am growing indicas in 3-gallon bags, can I veg it untouched and then start LSTing and topping after 3 full weeks? I have been reading threads that suggested that after a while, the main stem hardens and would break if it were bent.

Thoughts?
