just after some idea of how much is to much and all that sort of thing, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

If you mean "too much" as in "will get fined/jailed if I get caught" then the answer is you could get caught with only a few plants and get a fine or minimum jail time, usually only a fine though. Basically, the only semi-safe amount is 5 grams or less on your person in terms of legal ramifications, and thats only because of the cannabis cautioning scheme, letting minors with under that amount go with a warning at the officers discretion.

But if you're talking about growing under lock-and-key, then a few plants [5 or less, preferably 2 or 3] would be no sweat. Put them in an empty closet or an old fridge in your basement/garage/what-have-you. There won't be any significant power spike, any smell should be easily taken care of, and as long as you don't really tell anyone then thats about as safe as it gets.

Having said that, people get caught all the time - but its the smart ones who only grow for personal use that keep it safe and secure. Hope you do well, I'm thinking of doing a grow this summer.
