My First Grow Room (under construction)

Here are some pics of my grow room as it stands.... details and questions follow. I should also note that I have never grown before.






The room is about 6' x 3.5' x 3'-4' and there is still a lot to be done in it. It is hidden behind a false wall in a closet. As you can see the top of the
room is at an angle, my delima for this situation is a little further down.

The plant that is in there right now is just a random male from a neighbor. Was just testing to see how it did under the lights.... it was fine... the miracle grow potting soil it was in burned the shit out of it though. learned my lesson there.

So the stats on my room:

Light: 10 40w Fluorescent bulbs. The mounting is ghetto right now, but will be fixed. the "fixture" takes up about five inchest of verticle space. HPS is not an option right now financially, but may become one. I'm worried about heat though. It will be difficult to ventilate the room very well... Perhaps a smaller HPS lamp supplemented by fluoros?

Grow Area: 4' bulbs, and my fixture is about 2 feet wide at the moment. it can currently be raised up to 43" above the ground. This is utilizing all of the height possible in my room, leaving some of the floorspace unused. My other option would be to extend my fixture to be about 4' x 4' and take up the entire ceiling. It would be hard to adjust the fixture, and the light would have a maximum height of 32" from the ground, but I'd be able to fit in more plants. Any tips?

Heat: When the light is on constantly, the heat rises to 80 degrees, this will have to be addressed with some more ventilation. Lowest temp in the room has been 66 degrees.

Humidity: Whenever I enter my meter tells me around 40-45ish. Max has been 66 and min has been 30, but I assume that min was with the outer closet door open.

Grow Details (as it stands):I'm looking at a soil grow for this first attempt. Going to use a 1-1-1 Worm castings-perlite-vermiculite mix or something close. I have 12 bag seeds in jiffy pellets trying to germinate right now, but I have 12 "Big Bud" strain on the way. Yes, Big Bud was a poor choice, but it will work for now. Next I'll probably get NL or something easier to clone. I look forward to making this a two chamber setup soon.

Anyway... my plan is to let them grow, and after a month or so start ferilizing them a bit. My initial preference for fertilizers was Bat Guano Tea but I might be a little too lazy for that and get a chemical fertilizer.

Air: There is a vent hole at the bottom of the room that we may attach a fan to, but I think it will be an input fan.... I'll have to make a spot up top for air to be forced out of. It isn't a great setup, but all that is viable at the moment. Also I have a small oscillating fan in the room that is the perfect size for the job.

Other Shit:

The floor will be lined with black waterproof plastic... even considering mylar for the walls (though we already painted them white, we accidentally used glossy instead of flat, this could help with heat). I still don't know what pot size I want to use or how tall my plants should be before flowering.

What do you guys think? Any red flags or tips you can help me out with?
