I would say it's the water, at first. Make sure you use distilled, ph ajusted, or rain water for the all the methods
And only make the papper towel damp, not wet - and put in a dry dark place. Like a desk draw - work every time for me. Ow yes, and try not to handle the seeds to much. I use latex gloves whenever i handle a seed or seedling.

Sorry to but in but your temprature might also be wront so try to keep the seeds in a dry, dark, warm place (not hot).

See if that works for you !

Also the water point that was stated before might a probable cause ?

seeds

i was having the same problem ....just use white paper towels....distilled water ...and keep them dark and at room temp or just a little warmer...and keep them covered so the paper towel does not dry out but there should be no extra water in the container all should be absorbed by the paper towel....and just add a few drops of distilled water if the paper towel dries out ...also check on your seeds several times a day to make sure the towel is stil very damp.

what containers do u keep the seeds in cause i don't want my draws getting wet could i use 1 of those rectangle Chinese containers only cut the parer towels to size dampen them then put 2 on each side.

EDIT: are the seeds i used destroyed or will i be able to use them in this second attempt

Just go and get a gal. of distilled water, its the best way to treat your seeds and put in a dark/ warm place.
Befor you know it, in about 1-3 days you will see them pop open..

Start again with new seeds..toss the others out....

You can use chinese containers, but i've always used a plate with the 2-3 paper towels then seeds, then sprinkle with water, then 2 more paper towels, and a smaller plate on top upside down.
Tuck in all the paper towel under the rim of the smaller plate (this will ensure the water won't all evaporate). Put in a drawer and check every day.
They will take 2-3-4 days to crack and open up, but when they do they will grow very fast. Make sure everything else is ready to go before you start germinating such as soil, lights etc....

Recently I have stopped using tissues completely. I sow seeds directly into soil, keep the container warm and moist and they will pop just as fast as in tissues.
The only advantage of using tissues is that dud seeds get identified quickly. Disadvantage is that the handling of these very delicate sprouts can cause damage.

well, are the seeds bagseed? if so, was it good weed? I'm thinking that perhaps it was badly grown or early harvested and the seeds are premature......i'd give you some of my seeds if I could xD I have about 2,000 feminized northern lights seeds, a few hundred purple haze x twilight feminized and about 6,000 misc seeds.

easy approach and it never fails. 1 use only seeds that brown with spots if possible. Place in cup of room temp water overnight, any seeds that sink are good take them out and place between wet paper towel and place on paper plate cover and place on top of VCR/cable box check every 12hrs. Should see tap root emerge in 1-3 days. once tap root has emerged plant it, try getting the tap root pointed down but if it falls in wrong leave it it will still grow just fine.
