when growing with scrog dont you waste the "3ft" that the light penetrates through the canopy?

with scrog the bud grows say a maximum of 12 inches(dunno maybe more) but you waste alot of hieight.

or does the plant utilize the light the same as normally does

I'd be interested to know what you mean by wasting light. Isn't the idea of scrog growing to spread the canopy so that it recieves the most light possible?

The way i look at it is the more light hits leave and not other things the more bud youll get. to conserve you height maybe set up like a shelf of 2ft grow boxes. that way you can have two or three scrog instead of 1 normal.

with a scrog, your buds "are" the canopy! everything above the canopy should be bud growth. everything beneath it is cut off. your yeild will increase using scrog. the buds aren't as big but there's more of them.
