hps question?

ok i was wondering if it is ok to put a 400w hps on seedlings? if so then how high and for how long? i have heard that u should start out with a few hours a day until u reach 18 hours is this true? also does ur hps always stay a certain height or do u move it closer over time? if so when? also is a enclosed fixture or an open one better? thanks for any help...

Most people say not to start with the hps until the plants are at least a couple of weeks old. Some think it will burn the plant or dry out the soil to fast. I used one from the beginning on my first grow and didn't seem to have any adverse effects.

You should always keep the lamp about 12-18 inches away from the plant so you don't burn it. A test that some people use also is to hold your hand just over the plant.... if your hand starts to get hot than the lamp is to close.

I also use a 400W hps, and usually keep it about 16 inches above the plant, and keep raising it as the plant grows.

hey man thanks for the reply...i was wondering what kind of lights do u use? im wanting to find a agrosun conversion mh bulb to use with the hps. do they make these? if so do u know where i can get one? thanks for any help...
