How important is ventilation?

How important is ventilation in growing marijuana succesfuly? Is it really needed, or is it just for privacy and reducing odor? My walk-in closet in my bedroom has little spaces in the door where air could get in and out.. but I was thinking about covering my door with something to keep light, from my bedroom, from entering my closet. So if it is really important, how do I get ventilation in my closet. Would a fan work just as fine, because I really dont want to have to cut a hole in my ceiling and rig up a complex system.

Thanks,

Whodi

Well I personally think my own ventilation could be better, but I just have a desk fan blowing on my two plants in my closet and I just remember to open it a few times a night (plus I just like to check on them anyway). But they seem to be okay with just that.

Adding a few co2 bottles (search yeast co2) behind your fan and that'll help saturate the ambient air with a bit of co2 for them to breath in. That helps.

Generally you need to have a fan on your plants and an opening in your grow area for outside air to get in and out. That's enough for them to survive.

You need ventialtion:
- Plants need fresh air to breathe
- Temperature control
- Odor control

Okay, while we're on the topic of caring for plants, I'll ask here so i don't have to start a new thread: I was thinking about setting a one gallno jug outside and letting rain water collect in it. I heard this is good to use because plants like a slightly more acidic water than a neutral (distilled) water. Is this true?

On the site urbangrower.com theres a guy who shows you how to get 2pounds or more per 1000 watt light and in one setup they didnt use fans they said not having fans prevents algae and mold and gives you "total control of the enviorment" or some shit. ill try to find the link if i can. But in a closet u might get temp/humidy problems without proper ventlation.

Whodi,

Rainwater is good, but I've never had a problem with filtered tap water that sits open for 24 hours to let the chlorine evaporate. Distilled is good too. I'm not sure that MJ likes slightly acidic water -- it likes slightly acidic soil, and the water has some potential to influence that. But unless the water is totally whacked, as long as the pH is close to neutral I think you should be fine, just pay attention to your soil pH and adjust as needed.

Humidity rule I've always heard: 60% during veg, as low as you can (under 20%) during flower.
