Germination Problem, seeds turned black

This is my second grow. My first grow was very successful. I got 21 grams dried off of two plants under 3 nine dollar CFLs. I could not have done it without the help from the members and the information on this site.

The problem I am having this time is with the germination of the seeds. This happened to about 18 seeds of my last time and about 20 this time. I read the germination 420 thread and followed it. The problem is the seeds turn black and don't sprout. I have been waiting 5 days. Last time I waited 2 weeks and no sprouts. Is it possible the seeds drowned? Are they now useless? I had another 10 seeds germinating at the same time in another container and they stayed the kind of light brown colour and all sprouted. I must be doing something wrong. I will probably just plant the seeds next time without germinating as it is getting too costly losing these seeds.

Here is a picture but it probably will not help, I am terrible with cameras.

try dropping some of them in a cup of water- I had the same problem and put them in a cup of water and they popped overnight- should work for you- just keep it warm and dark--and if it doesn't by tommorrow, wait a few more and they should pop- once they pop put them right into the soil and don't put lights on them til they sprout

12 of the 18 seeds have cracked. I think the other seeds are hopeless. 12 is MUCH better than zero though. Thank you again faeryamos!

I do the same thing with 100% success so far, except I put the lights on the plants as soon as they are in the soil. It doesn't seem to make any difference either way, just saves some time and from having to jostle the plants around while setting them up so there's less of a chance of an accident happening.
