I was wondering how many hours of light should I be giving my plants? They are vegging right now and I;m doing 22 hours on and 2 hours off... is that fine or should i be doing 24 hours on??

Really great thread... there has been much discussion on female/male ratios particularly in the last year. A lof of people (due to mr cervantes) actually believed that environmental conditions could completely reverse the sex of a plant... many even went a step further and suggested cannabis was some type of asexual plant up until the 3rd week of flower. Completely untrue of course, the male to female ratios of cannabis are 50/50, and sex is determined genetically not environmentally. So a seed will be one sex or the other, as it is a dioecious species... wasn't always that way though, the dioecious species are an advancement or evolutionary step up on the monoecious species. In other words, all dioecious species were once monoecious (hermaphrodite)... Which is why all flowering dioecious plants are said to be hermaphrodite, although i believe this gene is more easily triggered in some female plants than others.

hi there!

what u guys think about swiching the mature plant 20-30 days to flowering (12/12) for a week or so - just to see the sex - and then swiching back to veg (18/6)??
can it stress or HARM plant? can it somehow make it hermie? or lower the yeld?
or whatever?

i heard fokes covering one branch with non transparent material - so one branch is starting to flower while the rest is vegging LOL

any other tricks?

Well it won't harm it but it will slow growth and can cause flower like pistils all over the place which hurts nothing but gives a flowering look. The hurt is the delay going back to veg.

Yeah they will show by themselves, on 24/7 or 18/6, when they are sexually mature.

Usually around 4-5-6 weeks under 24/0 from a HID lamp. Go down to 18/6 and you're looking at around 6-7-8 weeks. The variations take into account many variables and includes a safety net... so you should be looking at the lesser numbers. so 4 weeks under 24/0 and 6 weeks 18/6
