Sexing

Hi yall, total newb here. I'm so glad that i found this site. I think i can sex a plant now.....give it a few glasses of wine.......dinner.....but i was curious about the paper bag thing? And how do you go about cloning?Do you clone a branch with some root stuff? Do you clone as soon as you know its a lady?Can you clone at any stage of growth?

Some like to sex with clones, others like to clone from known, good genetics females. To clone cut at a 45 degree angle a lower branch [although anywhere from the plant can work], then re-cut under water, dip in rooting hormone, and put in rooting medium [soil-less mix, aeroponic, rockwool etc.] mist 2 times daily and keep in a humidity dome under 18/6 or 24/7. That is quick and dirty. For more info search "cloning" and read those threads.

Hey This is my first time around. Need a little help, please. This is 5 days in 12/12. I think they are 2 males but REALLY hope not. Can someone comment if you can tell. 3 plants total and the last is showing zero yet. One shown is PPP and 1 hashberry. Thanks

Does it look like it may have hermied or are the hairlike structures just a normal growth under 12/12?

I guess 3 for 3 aggggh. 5 more 2 week seedlings are started. Try Try Try

Rule of thumb; if the hair is white it is female. If the hair is green like in your picture it is just a stipule and those balls show male.

Thank You Smokn, I cut the 2 last night and since I have time now, think I may as well take pollen from the last one. Its very strong, and lots of vigor sooo....The smaller ones are 4 weeks now so put them in LST for some clones to try again. That was really depressing yesterday, but sure glad you did not come back and say Oh guess what,those are femmes Glad they were not hermies too

Im on my first grow here too (had poor ferts and lighting early in my grow before finding all the great info here!), 2 weeks into flowering and i had to get rid of 2 of the 4 i had because they were males. heres the pics:

this is the taller fem. call her Agnes... and yes they are very warped and stretched... 1/2 way in to veg and i corrected some of my light prob but they had already stretched pretty tall

this is the lil girl she got hit with a light at one point and got chopped back almost half. lookin scraggly at the moment but lots of new growth lately now that i am getting my nutes corrected and lights, all bonsai'ed up too lol

I did take some pollen sacs off them before getting rid of them just in case I want to try for seeds later.

Bubbaclaus, thnks for those pics, they helped where I had trouble with "hairs" on these males. Yup, all 3 were males 4 sure. I have a clone rooted from the ppp male and took 2 of 10-12" cuttings with balls from one of the Hshbry to see if they will mature and burst that way. They are in water and I'll bag the whole thing in a couple days ,as they swell. The next 5 are doing nicely, but maybe a month from flowering.Maybe, this time....

Its been strong and maybe more tolerant than the rest, for nutes and water, but growing just a little slower..With my luck, it is the only fem, so I pray for the little darlin and feed her well LOL

It took a good couple of weeks of flowering for the sex to really start showing but when u see balls theres no doubt!

It was a little depressing to have 1/2 my plants go bye bye but since then I've germinated 9 new seeds off my stash and they are gonna be taken care of much better now that I know a thing or 3 about soil, nutrients, lighting, and proper pruning.... : drools :: and I have a proper grow room in the works as well so hopefully by the time I am vegging the little guys their new home will be ready!!!

no r u sure there not to lottle round leafs that is the cotyledon and the other to will be big fan leaves eventually there just sprouting u wont see pistils yet only when light is changed to 12/12 will the show male or female traits

The top picture is definitely a male. I can't really see what you were looking at on the second but it probably a male too. I say that because if you are only a few day into 12/12 and sex is beginning to show, it's most likely going to be a male.

But I'm just a n00b, so whata I know? I started with 7 plants and got three females. The idea of sexing--and ef-n up-- was scary to me too. After this grow you will learn it is easy as pie. Once you see your first female pre-flower and the texture of the hairs coming out, you will know what I'm talking about. Like porn: you can't easily describe it, but ya know it hen ya see it.

On a related note I was hoping someone could give me some encouragement (or shatter my expectations if necessary) on my three ladies.

Since this was my first grow I just used bag seed. Until now I have pretty impressed with myself and my plants. I'm on day 31 of flower and I have three healthy plants, sans one with what appears to be a magnesium deficiency. Yesterday when I watered I noticed the first of the white hairs turning red. The problem is there is no real bud production. I would think i would have buds at least the size of my knuckle by now. I have little dandelion flowers everywhere, but at this rate I suspect harvest wont even yield a half ounce

So my question is how long do have have between the time of the first red hairs until harvest? I assume two weeks, tops, and two weeks doesn't seem long enough to produce squat.

I ask because I have some Snow White waited to be planted, and if the belief here is that my shite seeds are not going to produce much more, then I am going to evict them, move is Miss White, and quit wasting my time.

When you say 31 days of flower do you mean from 12/12 or from seeing actual buds?? If it is 31 days since going 12/12 you are probably only about 2 weeks into flower. Therefore you have at least another month to go. Buds and bud sizes are very dependent on type of light used and strain. CFL Buds really don't fill in as much as say with HID's. Also related to bud size is pot size. One gallon pots won't yield as much as say a five gallon pot. So my advice would be to continue being patient because at 31 days of 12/12 or flowering whatever it is, they still have more time left. Check trichs with a microscope for best harvesting results.
