Great thread! So helpful! 1) How common are hermies really? Does this happen often or rarely (>5% of the time?) 2) How much "stress" does it take before a plant goes hermie? Is this usually caused by over fertilizing? Underwatering? What's the main stressor? 3) Can ALL female plants become hermaphrodite under enough stress or just certain ones preinclined to be?

Great thread! Here's a few pics of some hermie branches I chopped. Sneaky little mothers! I'm at week 9 of flowering and they just popped up. I opted to leave the plant though (Sour NL x Neville's Haze from female seeds X-Line). It looks like it will produce some sweet smoke.

Wow KeepsMeSane, that's incredible that you spotted the "banana". So how much damage to several plants would a single pollen sack cause if it opens? And, can anyone estimate the percentage of hermies from regular seeds versus feminised? I would much rather use feminised seeds if the percentage of hermies is low(less than 10%) and/or similar to regular seeds. I'm growing outside and will have to visit at night and infrequently and so it's difficult for me to inspect the plants. I will order two more seed varieties this week. It's easier to use feminised and difficult in my situation to have 5 plants of every strain started with the hope of ending up with one or two females. I just wish I knew what the realities are. |
