The seeds from a hermaphrodite plant will make plants that are
1 female
2 hermaphrodites

This is a process of making feminized seeds. However the genitics from the seeds are never to be used for mothers f2 or f3 crossing. basically in the right conditions your seeds will produce mainly females that can be used for 1 crop ( bud production). stressing plants hard too see wich ones stay female is an excellent way of finding strong genitics for hybrids etc. indica strains are easier to use when doin this.

So carry on with the seeds just keep conditions and lighting optimal and a very close eye on them and you will have a fine crop from em.

2) How much "stress" does it take before a plant goes hermie? Is this usually caused by over fertilizing? Underwatering? What's the main stressor?

3) Can ALL female plants become hermaphrodite under enough stress or just certain ones preinclined to be?

im so mad this is my second grow and constantly getting hermies near the end of cycle. is it just the Alaskan thunder fuck strain still smokes great....

Great pict of a natural hermie. I'd hazard to guess that you had some femmed seeds and it produced that ugly bugger. That is one plant that I'd chop down, don't want that trait ever.

Great thread! Here's a few pics of some hermie branches I chopped. Sneaky little mothers! I'm at week 9 of flowering and they just popped up. I opted to leave the plant though (Sour NL x Neville's Haze from female seeds X-Line). It looks like it will produce some sweet smoke.

Wow KeepsMeSane, that's incredible that you spotted the "banana". So how much damage to several plants would a single pollen sack cause if it opens? And, can anyone estimate the percentage of hermies from regular seeds versus feminised? I would much rather use feminised seeds if the percentage of hermies is low(less than 10%) and/or similar to regular seeds.

I'm growing outside and will have to visit at night and infrequently and so it's difficult for me to inspect the plants.

I will order two more seed varieties this week. It's easier to use feminised and difficult in my situation to have 5 plants of every strain started with the hope of ending up with one or two females. I just wish I knew what the realities are.

I have not stressed this plant as far as I know, I did 12/12 from seed, and it is not feminized.
