Like woodsman said, you'll get advice from all walks of life. Everyone seems to find their own philosophy behind growing, so read as many guides as you can find and do your best to figure out what's best for you. Meanwhile, we're here to help.
edit: after skimming most of it, I'm pretty sure I've read that before. Like most guides, it's not perfect, but each one you read gives you new info and a new perspective.
