| Re: Electricity usage, wiring, saftey, and YOU!
Excellent job, man! I am an electrician by trade and i agree with you 100% on the subject of safety. I have seen a few rooms set up with no regard for safety and a potential fire hazard all due to lack of knowledge. You have covered the subject well. All I can think of to add is proper wire size. That is #12 copper for a 20A circuit and #14 copper for a 15A circuit. As a general rule it is not allowed by the national electric code to demand more than 80% of a circuit breakers ampacity. The reason being simple. If you have a 20A circuit that rating is for overload protection. If you are constantley maxing your demand for power the breaker can fail over time which can be very costly if you dont catch it in time. There are also a few diff manufacturers of load centers(breaker boxes, panels, etc.), specifically older models, that WILL NOT TRIP in the event of an overload. The have been discontinued for obvious reasons. The #1 guilty party is a company called Federal Pacific, used frequently in the s west usa. Be aware of these guys they are fire starters. If you have a Fed Pac load center l strongly urge you to have it replaced if not for your personal safety alone. I am a newbie to the grow game, but have wired a few rooms for green farmers. Any questions anyone has on the electric side of things I am more than happy to answer. PLEASE, BE CAREFUL! Basic electrical wiring is very simple if you follow the rules. I love to break rules, but electricity is unforgiving! I do not break the rules when it comes to the basic laws of electricity. Much love!
