I personally feel that marijuana will never be legalized in the U.S. *BECAUSE* of the people who abuse it... And that is the sad part... The majority of the people who try to "campaign" for legalization are the ones who are total burnt-out stoners who have it in their mind that they couldn't survive a day in their life without spending it high... Here's a little insight into abuse... I know a guy who smokes pot all day everyday... I have seen him say (and actually go through with it) that he would not go to work if he could not find some pot before he had to work the next morning... I have seen him drive to 3 different counties on a non-stop pot search that would not have ended until he found some... I have seen him take countless number of items to the pawn shop and basically give them away just so that he could get some pot... I have seen him lock himself in a room all day and not interact with anyone because all he wanted to do was sit and get high all day, listening to the radio, and not share with any of his bum friends if they happened to show up... This person is the most extreme case of a worthless abuser that I have ever seen... And to be honest he pretty much disgusts me... I always thought that noone could ever be literally addicted to marijuana, as if it were crack cocaine or something... until I met this guy... and I don't mean "addicted" as in just jonezing or being bummed out because you've had a bad day and really want to just get high and relax... I am talking about life-altering addiction to the point that you no longer even have a life to live... his entire existance revolves around smoking pot... and the ironic part is that he has spent like 20 years of his life high, every minute of every day, and I have listened to him say on numerous occasions that he has to smoke "so much" pot now because it barely even has any effect on him anymore... it is ridiculously pathetic... and makes no sense... this person almost turned me off to smoking pot altogether... I have smoked pot for about 7 or 8 years, and I have stopped and started many times... I have smoked on a daily basis for months at a time, and then just stopped and not smoked at all for months... I have smoked socially just with other people, and only on the weekends... It is no big deal... smoking pot is a "treat"... not a necessity to get through your daily life... if you ever find yourself thinking that you can't do this or that, or even get through your day without getting high... please take a look at yourself and put it on the back burner... stop smoking and let yourself realize what life was like before you started smoking pot... and then make it a "fun treat" again... because it's really not fun, or a treat when you feel like it's a life and death emergency to be high at all times... keep it fun... keep it social... life without pot is possible, and necessary for some people... but life with pot occasionally is better... self control is a beautiful human characteristic...
