I personally don't trim bottom buds but it's a preference thing more than anything else, I think.

Some say you are redirecting the energy to the bigger top buds, but back when I first started growing I tried both ways and really didn't see any difference.

And if needing to revegitate to get a mother of a good strain, that bottom third of the plant will be needed.
