wen i transplant i soak my medium i mean soak let it sit 5 minutes and grab from the base and slowly pull the plant out of the mud. SOME not ALL roots will rip not bad for the plant i normally wait until im CLOSE to root bound and transplant so that root development is abundent and u can afford to rip and lose roots. u will have a root ball at the bottom of your stem. once the plants completly been pulled from soil IMEDIATELY transplant put your root ball deep enough so that your plant will stand when you cover the roots with soil. your plant will take root into new medium fine and you should be okay for a while
