You have to use foil with the hookah, or else you get a disgusting lung killing smoke that practically defeats the purpose of using the hookah. You can use tin foil in its place, but personally I don't care. As soon as I get the money I'm ordering a permanent metal screen for it, until then I'm using aluminum foil. In case anyone doesn't know how it works, you place a smokeless self-lighting charcoal on top of a peice of foil with holes poked in it on top of your tobacco or herbal blend, there isn't supposed to be direct contact with the charcoal or a flame from any kind of lighter or it develops a very nasty taste. If you load it just right you can smoke a full bowl without a single cough, it's the smoothest way to smoke anything.
