Re: Are my babies stretching alittle?

Frosty,

Mine stretched for a while this spring too. It was partially due to the poor weather we had this spring, but they also needed more sunlight.

When you transplant them, make sure you drop those stretched stems a little further into the soil. I honestly don't think that the stretching you have is an issue though. Just make sure they are getting enough direct sunlight. You said you are getting 10 hours of direct sunlight a day? If that is true, I really can't say why they stretched. I have actually heard that a little stretching isn't bad for the plants. A little extra space between the nodes isn't detrimental for your plants success.

Here are a few things that can fix/prevent stretching...

1. Increase sunlight.
2. Bury the extra stem if they have stretched.
3. Reduce the amount of nitrogen they are getting (I am assuming you haven't even added nutes yet).

Note: If you are going to try to burying the extra stem, do not water near the stem for a while. Excess moisture around the newly buried stem may cause stem rot. Water around your plant.
