i was digonosed with add like 9 years ago so i know alot about it. I agree 6yrs old is way to young to be putting your kid on meds but when your kid gets older say junior high age i suggest you highly highly consider medications because they do help ALOT, a simple pill can be the difference of your son getting a great education and making it into a top college or your soon struggling by in school and not getting the education he could have. Also most people grow out of add once they become an adult so its not like he has to stay on meds his whold life. If you have any questions or anything feel free contact to me like i said i have alot of knowledge on this subject. I personally think once your kid is old enough to where school really matter i think you should put him on meds because it really does help.
Also another concern you seem to have is your son being dazed out all day, that isnt the case. When i was on medication i never felt dazed or anything like that, in fact the only difference i could tell is i was able to focus on things alot better and i was able to not get sidetracked as easily. I was still just as loud and hyper as allways but i was able to stayed focused and learn when i needed too. Just because it calms your kid down dosent mean it makes him dazed, did you know alot of kids on add will be given coffe because all the caffeine actually calms them down instead of making them hyper. Thats what add medcine does as well, if you give add medcine to a regular person its like giving them speed they will start jumping off the walls and talking a thousand words a minute but if you give it to a kid with add it makes them able to focus on things such as school work and it actually calms them down a little.
edit: im sure your concerns are the same as most parents, if your son does have add you should try to find a add specilist in your area so you can sit and and discuss your worries with them and they can help answer any questions you might have. Also one thing you might want to consider is add is one of the most overdiagnosed disorders in the usa, alot of times kids are just natrually hyper and doctors will miss diagnose them because they dont know enough about add thats why i suggest you check out a add specialist, someone who really knows about that subject.
