swan, no. thc isn't absorbed instantaneously. that would be physically impossible. im not sure exactly how long it takes, but it certainly does help to hold it in at least SOME time. i usually follow the old 8 second rule.
the fact that you notice you're coughing less proves this. coughing means you're absorbing more thc, because it means smoke is entering parts of your lungs that it usually doesn't enter.
that said, i don't like coughing either, and usually exhale if i feel im about to.
