I like IGOTJOINTS4YA's approach to this punishment... go after the enablers not the users. |
aslong as you support the artist somehow, no matter what amount that may be, I do not thing that pirating albums that are hard to find in store now or on itunes should be punished.
It is the enablers that are the problem, they are enabling masses of people to not support the artist at all. Some people don't give a fuck about concerts and will never go to them but for all actuality the music industry is not the ones hurting the most from this kind of stuff, it is mostly the movie industry and the PC gaming industry.
Look at the new sony PSP, sony spent billions to make this product, they sold a shit ton of them, but there are not nearly as many games being sold for it. This is the fact that the piracy scene for it is so bad that it has killed the profits that any game developer can have a chance to sell any games. It has killed the portable basically, the only games that are being sold really for it are sports and jap games. Game makers have basically said, fuckit, if nobody is going to buy the games for it, we are not going to make for it. It has basically frozen all sales of sony PSP's and Sony is now in a big debt because of it. This is just like the PC gaming market and the movie industry, pirating have crippled them.
Will Wright, the maker of Sims just rescently said, I would rather make a shittier popular game that will sell than a game that is revolutionary better game that does not sell. Will Wright is considered one of the best game makers, a true artist per say, and him saying this has shown how piracy has effected his business model.
