you said you're making firecrackers, so you can leave in sticks, stems, the occasional loose seed, w/e

grinding is pretty important if you're cooking because it exposes more surface area of the bud and more THC can be absorbed

along the same lines as MagicalJM mentioned.. you could take a shot glass and small scissors and cut up the bud finely in the glass if you have no grinder

all that said, a multi-stage grinder is a good idea
