Oh yes. Most actually believe something or other that they have not applied any critical thinking to before accepting it wholesale.

And the only way to stop silly ideas from perpetuating, even spreading, is to treat childish beliefs without evidense to be just that, childish. Often that means argumenting to the believers as they actually were children. With a healthy dose of overbearing and thinly veiled, if not outright mockery.

Even believers know when they are made fun of, and they don't like it. That is when they play the "offended" card. Which essentially means they got no counter-argument, and rather not want to continue debating an issue.
