Russian Comfrey Fert

I make a kick-ass organic fert from Russian comfrey, which I swear by, I thought I would write a thread outlining my method.

First obtain some roots of Russian comfrey, type Bocking 14. A quick Google will find you a supplier, they come as roots, about a euro a root. This is the only time you will have to buy anything. Plant the roots as directed by the supplierīs instructions.
Here is my comfrey bed.

Pull off handfuls of leaves, stuff them in a large plastic bottle about half full of water, until the bottle is full, like the pic below.

Every day give the bottle a shake, undo the cap slightly to release the gases that build up - they smell like a fart to be proud of. After a fortnight top up the container with more leaves, keep shaking and releasing gases.

After a month you are ready, your bottles look like this, full of a brown, incredibly smelly, mix of liquid and plant solids.

Pass through a sieve to drain off the solids. The solids can be added to compost, used as a mulch or dug in to MJ or other crops.

The liquid is your final product, contains N, P and K, mix 20:1 with water, feed often.

You can strip the plants 3 or 4 times in a season.
