hey sticky!
Plant is looking pretty nice.
1. If there are holes in the bottom of the container you are growing in you should water the plant until the water starts to leak out of the bottom. You should only water when the soil in dry and crumbly to the touch. If you are watering to much or to little the leaves will droop.
2. I usually water mine somtime before noon. I do this because the plants are working hard to take in the heat and sunlight so I figure that this would be a good time to help it out with some water. Its not extreamly important to have a schedule for water and staying to it but it doesnt hurt.
3. Shade doesnt hurt the plants at all. If a plant is having to much shade that means its not getting enough sun so make sure your plant gets at least 6-7 hours of direct sunlight per day. This being said indirect sunlight means that it needs light but it does not need to be directly under the sun. The point is dont put your plants in the sunlight for 7 hours and then put it in the shade.
4. Everyone has there own opinion of the best soil and there are many different additives that you can put into regular soil such as worm castings, peat moss, perlite and such. They all do different things and its deffenetly worth reading into. You can also just use regular plain topsoil with good results.
5. Its hard to tell by the picture of your plant but i would say that yeah i would use a little bit of nitro dominant ferts every week gradually increasing untill you are at what the container of fertilizer tells you if the recommended dose. It all takes practice and experiance to figure out the perfect fert, water mix.
Best of luck.
