I don't have any first-hand experience with auto-flowering strains, but I can offer some advice on a couple other points.
First, you're going to want to find a way to use the HPS. That's just a given. If you've got an HID light it seems an awful waste not to use it. Of course the heat is a problem with those but in my book that just means you need to find a way to solve that problem so the light can be used. The difference in results is night and day. Read up on how to air-cool that puppy.
Also, the difference between vegetative and flowering nutrients is important. You want to get both and use them appropriately. That doesn't mean doing exactly what the bottle or the calculator says because you'll need to make adjustments for your specific conditions and strain. (I think those numbers are based on idea strains under optimum conditions.) If you've got any questions I recommend hopping on AN's website and calling the help line number they have. They've always had great answers for me.
Chances are that no matter what problem or question you've got they've heard it already and know the answer.
