I've used an HPS and CFL's alone and with just a 26w UVB bulb, and I believe I saw a difference. I didn't have a microscope for the no-UV grow, but I did for the other and I can confidently say that I have no idea how I could have fit more crystals in there! It was all stalks and balls, on the underside of all the bud leaves... beautiful.
About the MH's giving more red light than the HPS, I may be incorrect, but don't those graphs show how much relative light the bulb gives in a spectrum? Like, isn't the vertical axis of the graph more like a percent and relative only to itself? So the two graphs can't be put side-by-side and show that the one on the left (for example) has more red spectrum. Does my $0.02 make sense?
