Got my Attic fan installed. Just need to wire up the thermostat and test it out. Tomorrow morning you will get the scoop on that. I placed two 2x4s between the studs where I needed them, Took my sheet of wood with the big hole in it, and hammered it to the 2x4s, pulled it all out as one piece and put the fan in it, secured the 2x4's further, to the face plate with some screws, and attached the fan via bracketry that came with the fan. I put a thick bead of caulk at all seams that would not be accessable when installed, and a thick bead where the faceplate and 2x4s made contact to the wall and studs. I also sealed the outer joints with Great stuff expanding foam. here is a pic (shitty one) below. I will be replacing the vent on the outside of the house to accomodate the huge fan if needed. I only need to keep 80-90degF in my attic, so we'll see.
FMJ, Glad to have you stop by. The 6 layers are going to be about a quarter thickness or more. I am also going to insulate the outside of the box with R-11 Fiberglass insulation, and covering that with IR sheilding.
The hot air off the back of the AC is not from the room, so it is a closed system, no smell. Just have to tilt the AC 1/3 of a bubble on the level towards the outside of the box, and catch the water in somthing. I am going to make a drain in the bottom of mine to go to a 5gal pail i think.
