The prom thing is BS. You were not convicted of a crime so they have no right to descriminate. I'd take the school to court if this happened to me. Not just for money, but so they look like idiots and don't do it to anyone else.
Unfortunately, there probably isn't anything you can do to go to your prom and they know it. It costs lots of money and time to go to court on issues like this and they know most HS kids don't have either.
