You could always take some soil from your plot and some organic soil with no added nutes mix them together and use that for your seedlings in regular pots(plastic ones). I thought jiffy pots were for indoor growing but i am new to growing so im not sure.
You may want to look at using peat pots I dont like them my self, had bad experiences with these but some people abide by them.
with in regards to the chemicals used for the crops near your plot, in my opinion they wouldnt harm the soil as they probally continue to grow crops there right ?
