It's usually recommended if not required that when using
synthetic fertilizers you aim for 10-20% run off water as well. In the case of organics this isnt as important. This runoff water helps prevent a toxic buildup on the roots which when present is very difficult to deal with effectively and can cause lots of problems and significantly reduced yields.
