I bet it got leafy because the days were getting longer and the plant was starting to re-veg. As for saying it looks premature, I dont see how anyone can tell that by looking at the pictures especially with all the leaves in the way and no close up of the trichs. I dont think he trimmed it yet when he shot the pictures either, looks like it is freshly chopped.
Buds from a spring harvest will look different also, they usually dont pack on too much weight because they dont get to experience the colder nights like in September/October. No matter what he would have had to chop it anyway, the days are getting longer, or play the 12/12 game, bring it inside every day for 12 hours darkness. That's a pain in the ass.
