Split stem

I topped this plant once while it was vegging, the center never grew back, it grew 4 main braches instead, & a bunch of other little bud carrying branches. I thought that was cool, but it got real thick in the middle, so I tied the 4 main branches apart just slightly so the middle could get some light. Well, yesterday I noticed the main stem is split, exactly where I made the top cut during veg, just below the 4 branches, the split is about 1/2" down. I removed the strings, & kinda tied the 4 branches together in the middle to stop more splitting.

When I originaly tied the branches apart, I only seperated them by about a 1/2" or so, barely any pressure at all, the stems seemed fairly flexable, I figured if I started them that way they would naturaly grow in that direction. Instead the main stem started splitting.

Anyway, I'm thinking that so long as it doesnt continue, & its still being able to draw up nutrients it should be ok.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? Any help is appreciated...thanks.

Any tips or threads you've seen on how to speed up the flowering stage with as little yield loss as possible?
